Bella, a sweet and caring 13-year-old, has been battling high-risk neuroblastoma since she was just 5 years old. Kids with relapsed high-risk neuroblastoma face a less than 5% chance of survival. Bella is being treated at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia under the care of Dr. John Maris, who believes she could benefit from a groundbreaking treatment that’s ready to be developed, if they can get the funding.
Thanks to the SHOOK community, Bella’s family and other families battling high-risk neuroblastoma have newfound hope this novel treatment will provide the cure they so desperately need.

His family now advocates for safer, more effective treatments for children battling neuroblastoma.

Building upon the success of the treatment funded by the SHOOK community in 2023, Dr. John Maris at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will be adding a vaccine booster to enhance PHOX2B PC-CAR T cell immunotherapy for high-risk neuroblastoma. The goal is to increase CAR T cell proliferation, longevity, and tumor-killing ability to improve outcomes for children.
